Allan Starski has his star in the Walk of Fame in Łódź

Allan Starski received his star in the Walk of Fame in Łódź. The ceremony that took place on 11 April was a part of the jubilee events of Powszechny Theatre’s 70th anniversary. Oscar winner Allan Starski arranged set design for „Song Factory” – the latest spectacle of Powszechny Theatre which had its first preview on Saturday 11 April at the Big Stage of Powszechny Theatre. It was the idea of director Ewa Pilawska to install Alan Starski’s star – she appealed to the selection committee with the idea. It is worth mentioning that Ewa Pilawska was the initiator of installing two other stars – that of Edward Kłosiński and of Danuta Szaflarska. The star was funded by Veolia Energia Łódź and the representative of the company – Anna Kędziora Szwagrzak, financial director and member of the board – was present during the ceremony.

This is the year of the 70th anniversary of Powszechny Theatre in Łódź. The jubilee has been held under the honorary patronage of President Bronisław Komorowski. The preview of „Song Factory” (by Maciej Karpiński and Maciej Wojtyszko, directed by Maciej Wojtyszko and Adam Wojtyszko) was the climax of the jubilee events. The scene of the play is laid in post-WWII Łódź. It tells a story of how film industry was born, how Łódź Feature Films Sudio (Wytwórnia Fimów Fabularnych) was born and how the first Polish post-war film – „Forbidden Songs” – was produced. Two authors of the film, Ludwik Starski (Allan’s father) and Leonard Buczkowski, are the heroes of the play.

Veolia (proviously known as Dalkia) has been a partner of Powszechny Theatre in Łódź for many years. The company highly appreciates the initiatives of director Ewa Pilawska and the Theatre’s activities. That is why it decided to join the jubilee events and to support one of them.
