Łódź was the film Mecca and Medina

On November 16 the third meeting of the series “Maters of Lodz Theatres” took place in our theatre. This time Barbara Połomska and Michał Szewczyk, senior actors of Powszechny Theatre, told about their film careers.

Michał Szewczyk said that in his youth “Łódź was the film Mecca and Medina”. It was here that the most outstanding directors and stage designers worked, it was here that many actors came to fulfill their dreams of a silver screen career. Both Ms Połomska and Mr Szewczyk recalled their work with important film creators of that times such as Andrzej Munk, Roman Polański and Stanisław Bareja. 

On this November afternoon Barbara Połomska and Michał Szewczyk remembered also some foreign trips that were connected with their film work. Among others they had visited United States, Japan, Argentina and Brasil – the countries that in those times were not in a typical tourist’s reach.
