„Masters of Lodz Theatres” – Wanda Neumann and Michał Szewczyk

On a Sunday, 10 January afternoon the fifth meeting of the series „Masters of Lodz Theatres” took place in our theatre. This time Wanda Neumann (for the first time!) and Michał Szewczyk – senior actor of Powszechny Theatre were the guests of Małgorzata Warzecha who moderated the meeting.

Wanda Neumann, the actress who has cooperated with many Polish theatres, recalled Lodz where she had studied and appeared on stage; she recalled her most important roles and other actors, too. She also spoke of her husband Wiesław Nowicki – an actor, director and culture activist who established (together with The Friends of Lodz Society) a prestigious medal „Pro publico bono” dedicated to Sabina Nowicka. The medal has been given to people committed to Polish and Lodz culture. And by the way – Michał Szewczyk had been also given the medal.

Bonds of Wanda Neumann and Michał Szewczyk with Lodz have been very strong. Mr. Szewczyk many times turned down offers from other Polish theatres because he wanted to play in Powszechny Theatre. Wanda Neumann does not live in Lodz but she regularly returns to the stage in Legionów Street to play in „Brunch” by Juliusz Machulski.

One of the aims of the series is to give our spectators the possibility to talk to our actors. This time the discussion focused on the process of producing a spectacle and the reception of it. In both cases „Brunch” was an example.

Thank you for your presence!
