„Mothers And S0ns” at the 23rd Festival

Master performance of „Mothers And Sons” directed by Krystyna Janda attracted crowds of spectators. It has slowly become a Festival tradition that we run short of tickets and free admission tickets.

Polonia Theatre from Warsaw presented a show on tolerance and sensitivity to other people. Mother of late Andre visits Michael – former partner of her son. The woman is full of hatred and prejudice. She cannot accept that her son was gay, her negative emotions are stronger than her natural love to her son. She neither understands nor accepts the world blaming everybody for her unsuccessul life. Her jealousy, sorrow and feeling of justice are the reason of conflict with a happy gay pair who are bringing up a child. The spectacle tells the story of important problems of contemporary world.

After the show there was a meeting with its creators. It was moderated by Łukasz Drewniak. Krystyna Janda, the spectacle director and an actress in one of the leading roles said that she had seen the play for the first time in New York – the viewers had cried because the play took up the problem of gays dying of AIDS and in the United States this was a very poignant subject. Ms Janda said she showed „Mothers And Sons” in Poland to present a situation when two gays in a happy relationship brought up a child. And there is nothing abnormal in it. As Ms Janda pointed out she had worked very hard on the spectacle in order to present the story in a possibly simplest and most understandable way. The story and the subject were most important but they had to be showed in a different way than in the USA to help Polish viewers understand them better.

Thank you for the night!
