Season in beauty

Today artists rarely talk about beauty. It is a little feeling of shame to talk about beauty. Why? This will be one of the subjects of the conversation between Lodz poet Mr Piotr Grobliński with the Nike Award nominee Mr Dariusz Suska. The conversation will take place during the first meeting of the “Season in beauty” original project. The meeting will be devoted to Rainer Maria Rilke.

The best poets and the best coffee in town. Powszechny Theatre invites you on Sunday, 5 February, at 4 p.m. Admission free.

The Powszechny Theatre director Ms Ewa Pilawska invited Mr Grobliński to carry on the project. It’s aim is to meet contemporary poets and discuss his or her poems as well the poems of one of the greatest 19th or 20th century poets (Rilke, Baudelaire, Leśmian, Eliot, Grochowiak, Merrills, Kawafis). Poems of both poets will be read by Powszechny Theatre actors.

-The title of the project is a paraphrase of Arthur Rimbaud’s poem “Une Saison en Enfer”, Mr Grobliński explains. He says that artists rarely talk nowadays about beauty – the art concentrates on commenting the reality, it looks for formal solutions, thinks about itself, plays sociology or philosophy. - It is a little feeling of shame to talk about beauty but people need contact with beauty very much and I do believe in it. Great poetry beautifully read may draw the recipient’s attentions, Mr Grobliński says.

Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke that lived on the turn of 19th and 20th centuries and Mr Dariusz Suska, the Nike Award nominee in 2001 and 2005, will be the heroes of the first “Season in beauty” meeting. The subject of the meeting, according to Mr Grobliński, will be passing away – a classic theme present in the poems of both poets.

Ms Pilawska adds that “Season in beauty” project is a continuation of poetry meetings “My-our favourite poetry” that were held in Powszechny Theatre a few years ago.
