„Tadeusz Kantor. Collision” – academic session during the Festival

An academic session „Tadeusz Kantor. Collision” took place on 22 March on the Small Stage of Powszechny Theatre during the 21st edition of International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant. The session was devoted to the great Polish creator but it also developed the main theme of this year's Festival – the condition of an artist as we have been trying to answer the question raised by Ms Ewa Pilawska, the art director of the Festival: who is a contemporary artist?

The session was organized under the honorary patronage of Ms Iwona Śledzińska-Katarasińska, MP.

Participants of the session were: professor Andrzej Turowski (Université de Bourgogne), one of the greatest Polish art historians; professor Karolina Prykowska-Michalak (Lodz University), an assistant professor at the Institute of Modern Culture; Jarosław Suchan, an art historian, critic and custodian, director of the Art Museum in Łódź; Jaromir Jedliński, an art historian and custodian, former director of the Art Museum in Łódź; Dominika Łarionow, Ph. D., an assistant professor in the Department of Art History at Lodz University. Each lecture was devoted to different issue but their main mutual goal was to „collide” Kantor's work with other avant-garde and neoavant-garde actions in order to present his uniqueness and strong individualism.

One of the goals of the session was to introduce to the citizens of Łódź the figure of Tadeusz Kantor – his centenary will be celebrated on April 6, 2015. During the session two his experimental films „Attention... Painting!” and „Somnambulists” were shown.
