Theatre – Live or on DVD?

On 13 March during the 23rd edition of International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant there was an interesting discussion on theatre in the times of cyberspace and the world of new media. There were four panelists taking part in it: Anna Augustynowicz, Małgorzata Bogajewska, Ryszard Kluszczyński and Adam Woronowicz. The discussion was moderated by Łukasz Maciejewski.

Moderator:

Łukasz Maciejewski

Journalist, film and theatre critic. He graduated the film studies at The Institute of Audio-Visial Arts of the Jagellonian University. He is a lecturer at the Acting Department at The Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź. He is a member of The European Film Academy, The International Federation of Film Critics Fipresci and The International Association of Theatre Critics AICT. He has been the programme director of the Cinema on the Border Festival in Cieszyn (since 2015). He has been the ambasador of the project „Accesible Culture” implemented by The National Centre of Culture (since 2016). He has been the expert of The Polish Film Institute since 2006. He is the moderator and co-organizator of many festivals and film reviews in Poland and Europe, a juror at film festivals, among others in Montreal, Karlovy Vary, Podgorica, Agadir, Skopje and Cottbus. He is the honorary patron and juror of the Piotr Sobociński Competition called the Artistic Phenomenon of the Sobociński Family.

Panelists:

Anna Augustynowicz

Graduate of theatre studies at The Jagellonian University and directing department at The Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Cracow. She made her debut in 1989 staging Marek Koterski’s play „The Inner Life” at The Wojciech Bogusławski Theatre in Kalisz. She has been the artistic director of Współczesny Theatre in Szczecin since 1992. In the 1990’s she was the first director in Poland to introduce modern European dramaturgy. Her performances, though often controversial, gained recognition by the critics and the audience and it is confirmed by numerous awards she received at national theatre festivals.

Małgorzata Bogajewska

Theatre director. She studied law at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, acting at the Academy of Visual Arts in Poznań and dramaturgy at Camerimage Film School in Toruń. She graduated from Directing Department at The Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw. In 2004-2006 she was the artistic director of the Dramatic Stage of the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Theatre in Jelenia Góra. Since September 2016 she has been the director of Ludowy Theatre in Cracow

Prof. Ryszard W. Kluszczyński, Ph.D.

Head of Department of Electronic Media at the Institute of Contemporary Culture, University of Lodz. Professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz. He investigates the issues of new media arts and cyberculture, contemporary art theory, avantgarde art. He is the author of numerous books and curator of exhibitions presenting the latest avantgarde artistic tendencies.

Adam Woronowicz

Theatre and film actor. Graduate of The Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw. He has been cooperating with the TR Warsaw, Powszechny Theatre in Warsaw, Ateneum Theatre in Warsaw, Współczesny Theatre in Wrocław and Wierszalin Theatre. He has created many important film roles, including: „Popiełuszko. Freedom Is Within Us” directed by Rafał Wieczyński (2009), „The Reverse” directed by Borys Lankosz (2009), „Chopin. Desire for Love” directed by Jerzy Antczak (2002) and „The Christening” directed by Marcin Wrona (2010).
