Three people – 112 years in our Theatre

Three people who had worked in Powszechny Theatre passed away recently. Krystyna Sabara, Józef Jaworski and Marek Grzelak were not known by the spectators, they did not get applause when the curtain was lowered but they too contributed to the history of Powszechny Theatre and our city’s culture.

Krystyna Sabara worked in Powszechny Theatre for 38 years. In 1973 she became our prompter and stage manager. She was connected with the Theatre not only professionally but privately as well – she was a wife of our actor Tadeusz Sabara and a mother of Rafał Sabara who directed three plays on our stage. Though retired in 2000, she cooperated with us for another 11 years.

Józef Jaworski, a master in his profession of shoemaker, was connected with our Theatre for 37 years (1971 – 2008). He. He was loved by the actors and especially by the actresses for his charm and elegance.

Marek Grzelak, a tailor, was also very much engaged in his work for our Theatre where he spent 37 years (1974 – 2011). He designed and made many costumes not only for our performances but for many films as well. He was a master – he knew very well that a costume is an actor’s element to help him build his role.

Every time we say goodbye to people we have known for so many years we feel emptiness and we know that it is an end of an era in the Polish theatre. We will always remember those who created the Theatre in which we work .
