„Virgins” – the 49th preview of the Reading theatre for people with poor eyesight and blind

The preview of „Virgins” that was presented on 11 May on Small Stage of Powszechny Theatre got a big and long applause. The play as usual was directed by Ewa Pilawska on a voluntary basis.

The play by John Retallack touches problems that are very important for young people, problems they do not often know how to talk about, and sex is among them. Is it really a taboo subject? Is it possible to talk about it with no constraints of being vulgar or a hypocrite? Is it easier for us to talk about it than it was for our grandparents or grandgrandparents? And finally, is it true that young people nowadays are more open and airy and treat sex only as a kind of play or joy? Retallack is not a teacher when he speaks about sex, about feelings accompanying it, about risks, about how important it is in everybody's life. He does not teach us. He asks how to understand your sexuality while living together with your parents and also how to keep your closeness in everyday busy life.

It is a story about a family who lost themselves and cannot communicate with each other any more. The live next to each other, they seem to be an open, modern, progressive family but they cannot find a way for themselves to talk about most important problems. Music and dance are important elements of this production because they introduce a little bit of unreal, oineiric world of some kind of trance to the story.
