Drama workshops

It is one of the initiatives of Polish Comedy Centre. Its aim is to encourage young playwrights as well as amateurs (who would like to try their hand at writing for the stage) to become interested in comedy. During the workshops that last for the whole season recognized playwrights share their experience with young participants. The meetings are organized on regular basis and they are oriented at the participants’ independent workshop work.

 

Season 2009/2010

The first workshop was conducted by Maciej Wojtyszko, famous theatre, film and television director. He is also the author of many books for children and young readers, a lecturer at The Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw and a member of Polish Writers’ Association. In 2009 he directed „Reshuffle” by Paweł Mossakowski in our Theatre. Wojtyszko shared his experiences with the workshop participants, he presented basic formal differences between comedy and other stage works, he also reminded of distribution of accents and tensions while composing a storyline. During the meetings he presented various drama „tools” that may be used by future playwrights. Thanks to the workshop a play „No Title” was written by all participants. The play was presented by Teatr Powszechny actors twice – during the open reading session with the audience and within the project Reading Theatre for people with poor eyesight and blind.

 

Season 2010/2011

Juliusz Machulski – master of Polish comedy conducted the workshop in 2010/2011 season. He is acknowledge as one of the best and famous creators of Polish cinema, director of “Vabank” and “Seksmisja”. He shared his experiences concerning the comedy writing as well as the future course of the written text. Machulski – director, producer and “Zebra” film studio manager – told about work on the texts after it had been finished till the moment of its stage or film production. Having known the results of the first workshop, Machulski suggested the work in groups. Teams of several people were writing their own comedy texts and during mutual meetings the texts were presented; discussions that took place after the presentations gave the authors possibility of finding answers to their questions as well as of active looking for solutions of their problems. Several comedy texts were the result of the workshop and the participants worked on them after the season had been closed.
