„Dancing With the Stars” at the 48th Theatre Meetings in Jelenia Góra

On 6 October, at the 48th Theatre meetings in Jelenia Góra, Powszechny Theatre in Łódź will present of our latest premieres – “Dancing With The Stars”, written and directed by Michał Walczak. We will be there together with other spectacles presented by theatres from Warsaw and Cracow.

“Dancing With the Stars”  is inspired by the life of Bohdan Gadomski – journalist and critic from Łódź. The play was rehearsed during theatrical lockdown and it premiered on 20 May 2021 on our Small Stage. – I invited Michał Walczak to write a comedy especially for Powszechny Theatre in Łódź because we have Polish Comedy Center here and it is a sort of laboratory of comedy. We are looking a Polish comedy language, we confront different aesthetics and sense of humour. We present world previews and pave the way for plays that have not been presented at other stages – and it is a great artistic risk – says Ewa Pilawska, founder of Polish Comedy Centre, the Powszechny Theatre director.

Bohdan Gadomski together with his poodle Bubu Mon Cheri invite the viewers to a glittering, gold-and-diamonds and controversial world. There a benefit of stars (with Violetta Villas, Krzysztof Krawczyk and Ewa Demarczyk) is just being prepared in extremely hard conditions due to the pandemic. This is the world of show business with all its splendours and miseries. According to Michał Walczak it is a camp, contradictive, self-mocking world – but it reminds us that only keeping sensible distance helps us not to go crazy. The characters are exaggerated, they juggle with conventions laughing at others as well themselves. The aim of “Disillusion Farm” (rehab centre for stage artists) is to get rid of illusions and hypocrisy.

“Dancing With The Stars” will be shown on October 6 at 7 p.m. at the Big Stage of The Cyprian Kamil Norwid Theatre in Jelenia Góra.
