The General Assembly of the Union of Polish Theatres have elected a new board for the next term. Ewa Pilawska, director of Powszechny Theatre in Łódź, has been elected the President of the Union. In this position she has replaced Maciej Englert, one of the founders of the Union and its long-term president. Mr Englert did not run for re-election. According to the wish of the Union and its status Maciej Englert will be the Union’s Honorary President.
Our congratulations go to our director together with sincere wishes of courage, persistence and unabated charisma in her new position!
Renata Derejczyk (director of The Wilam Horzyca Theatre in Toruń), Piotr Kruszczyński (director of Nowy Theatre in Poznań) and Artur Tyszkiewicz (director of The Stefan Jaracz Ateneum Theatre in Warsaw) will be the Union’s Vice-Presidents.
Union of Polish Theatre was founded in 2003; many important Polish theatres (to mention here National Theatre in Warsaw, National Stary Theatre in Cracow, Współczesny Theatre in Warsaw, The Zygmunt Hubner Powszechny Theatre in Warsaw, Współczesny Theatre in Szczecin, The Helena Modrzejewska Theatre in Legnica or Śląski Theatre in Katowice) belong to it. For many years the Union has striven for the rights of the theatre community and its future. It has taken a stand in most important matters, reacted to bad practices towards the theatres, suggested solutions, discussed important problems and talked with the authorities about key subjects as the representative of theatrical community.
