Ewa Pilawska honoured for her services to the Łódź Province

Ewa Pilawska, director of Powszechny Theatre in Łódź, was awarded  Badge of Honour for Merits to the Łódź Province! We are very glad and we congratulate our Director! 

The Badge is awarded by Provincial Assembly „for outstanding contribution, through total professional, social and public activities […], to economic, cultural and social development of the Łódź Province”.   

On 18 November, 2025,  at the awards gala, Joanna Skrzydlewska, Łódź Province Marshal,said that culture was very important because it created community. And Ewa Pilawska succeeded in building such community, community with the audience, in our Theatre. Her list of achievements is very long, to mention here only a few most important projects: Polish Comedy Centre, „Comedywriting” competition, International Festival of Plays Pleasant And Unpleasant, „Reading theatre for the blind and partially sighted persons”, cultural education projects (such as „Child in a Situation”), revitalization and social projects, „Theatre Close to People”…  Thanks to them our theatre belongs to a small group of the most frequently visited drama theatres in Poland. It is worth noting that Ewa Pilawska was elected the President of the Union of Polish Theatres for the second term.            

It was thanks to her efforts the great dream of our theatre came true – Small Stage of Powszechny Theatre was built. And another dream is now being fulfilled. Our Theatre now plays on two temporary stages because a historic, complex modernization of the builing in 21 Legionów Street is under way; it is co-financed by the European Union and the City of Łódź (in a non-competitive procedure Ewa Pilawska’s idea of „Powszechny Theatre in Łódź – European Centre of Comedy and Theatrical Education received a grant). We finished last season in 21 Legionów Street and started the new one on two temporary stages, like it was nothing… We crossed relocation and the investment beginning dry-shod, with a feeling of complete security.
