First Award „Idol of Culture” for Powszechny Theatre

Chance for the Blind Foundation awarded the first prize to Powszechny Theatre in Łódź in the Cultural Institution of the Łódź Province category. We received the award for the Reading theatre for people with poor eyesight and blind project – the original idea of our director Ewa Pilawska who since 2005 has directed 63 previews on a voluntary basis. The decision came as a result of the internet voting – both the nomination and the award were given the the blind. Thank you!

- It is a great honour and gladness to receive the award. 14 years ago, when the project began, nobody dreamt it would last that long. We started together with late Teresa Wrzesińska, the then head of the Łódź Branch of Polish Union of the Blind. She loved art, theatre, poetry. Her unusual soul opened for the project. We started in a modest place, in the common room of the Union. Then we built our Small Stage and moved the previews there. We should remember that it is the barriers in our heart that must be broken first, and only after that we can think of technology – said Ewa Pilawska during the ceremony.

Our congratulations to other laureates, among others to the City Council of Łódź, which was also awarded by the Foundation. We are happy that thanks to us Łódź has been a better place to live for people with poor eyesight and blind.
