First presentation of „Well, I’ll Be!”

The audience was full, and it was also full of children’s smiles. On Wednesday, 27 May 2026, we premiered „Well, I’ll Be!” by Marta Guśniowska, directed – on a voluntary basis – by Ewa Pilawska.  

This is the story of a depressed goose that has lost the will to live and voluntarily wants to invite herself to dinner as the main course – it is ametaphor of our contemporary search and struggles. - It is a play with an incredibly wise message that applies to all of us, no matter if we are 5 or 125 years old – Ewa Pilawska says.

Marta Guśniowska was awarded several times for her text, among others it received the 1st prize in the Competition for Theatre Play For Children And Youth, and the book version was awarded the Ferdynand Wspaniały Prize as the Book of the Year by Children Literature Festival.         

- „Well, I’ll Be!” by Marta Guśniowska is a a play about the search for meaning that accompanies us throughout our lives. The author takes the protagonist through various experiences, ultimately revealing the true essence of the story – Ewa Pilawska says. The protagonists (among others Fox, Bear,  Otter, Mama Hare) create portraits of the contemporary world, where different personalities, contrasting characters, and diverse visions of reality collide. „Well, I’ll Be!” is also a metaphor for our „being with others” – the text features a line stating that family are those who care about us. This thought reminds us of how important the quality of the relationships we build and create is – Ewa Pilawska adds.

- The play breaks stereotypes and intelligently exposes the traps we fall into when we silence our inner voice and forget who we want to be. It shows how important passion is in life and how much courage to be yourself gives us wings, but also how crucial it is to follow the principle: „do no harm, yet do not lose yourself” – Ewa Pilawska emphasizes.

This was an exceptional meeting with our young audience who reacted enthusiastically to the adventures of our extraordinary heroine — a goose searching for the meaning of life. Did she manage to find it? Find out for yourself!

Next performances will be presented on 28 and 29 May as well on 1 and 2 June in EXPO-Łódź Hall and on 31 May at 5 p.m. in the Old Town Square – as part of the city’s Children’s Day celebrations.
