„Imagine” by Krystian Lupa voted „The Best Spectacle of 2022”!

„Imagine” directed by Krystian Lupa, the co-production of Powszechny Theatre in Łódź and Powszechny Theatre in Warsaw, was voted by the viewers „The Best Spectacle of 2022” and won this year’s edition of Plastry Kultury Plebiscite! The spectacle had its world premiere last April at the 28th edition of International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant.

- „Imagine” is a co-production of two Powszechny theatres – the theatre in Łódź and the theatre in Warsaw. I thank director Paweł Łysak and the teams of both theatres for this magnificent artistic adventure and model co-operation. The first world presentation in Łódź was the crowning of the way we went together with Krystian Lupa and International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant – Ewa Pilawska, the Powszechny Theatre in Łódź, emphasizes.

„If you asked me who the greatest theatre director working in Poland was, I would answer without any hesitation: Krystian Lupa. Each of his spectacles has descended very deeply inside us. You cannot forget it, it makes you uncomfortable, it stays in your head and your mind. Lupa is an artist-visionary who is not interested in safe, ostensible stories. He deprives us of the feeling of comfort and asks fundamental questions. What have we done to the world? What have we done to ourselves? Can we look at ourselves in the mirror?” – it is a fragment of the text Ewa Pilawska has written as an introduction to the book „Krystian Lupa. Artist. Visionary”. The first presentation of the book will take place on 2 April at this year’s edition of International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Upleasant.

On 1 and 2 April we will present „The Siblings” by Thomas Bernhard – the spectacle directed by Krystian Lupa and produced by The Helena Modrzejewska National Stary Theatre in Cracow.

Powszechny Theatre thanks for all votes and congratulates all nominees and winners of this year’s edition of Plastry Kultury!
