Janda and Lupa inaugurated the 29th edition of International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant

On 4th March 2023 „My Way” by Krystyna Janda and the exhibiton of Krystian Lupa’s drawings opened the 29th edition of International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unplesant – a great holiday of the theatre. The house of the Powszechny Theatre’s Big Stage was more than full – there was not even enough space for the standing places. Thank you for being with us, thank you for the ovation!

This was the first presentation of „My Way” outside Polonia Theatre in Warsaw, where it was shown for the first time in December of last year to celebrate Krystyna Janda’s 70th birthday. As the viewers emphasized, the Łódź presentation had a unique energy and power, it was touching, moving, electrifying and masterly.

After the show director Ewa Pilawska invited Małgorzata Moskwa-Wodnicka (deputy mayor of Łódź) and a representative of the audience to the stage and they gave Krystyna Janda a special award of International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant. It is a crowning of the road which Krystyna Janda has been going together with our Theatre for years. Here we could see many her spectacles, here she was awarded by the audience as the best actress of the festival. For the last couple of years her spectacles were the master presentations – they did not take part in the competition.

The award emphasizes the mastery Ms Janda – the great actress. It is an expression of special recognition and emotions of the audience. The award – the statuette of a marble swallow – was funded by the Festival and created by Zbigniew Dudek, a sculptor and professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. Swallow is a symbol of rebirth, it spells spring and flies high… Why marble? Perhaps you can look for analogy in the fact that the role of Agnieszka in Andrzej Wajda’s film „Man of Marble” is one of the greatest achievements of Krystyna Janda.
