Master performance of "Uhlans" for the final of the Festival

The 25th edition of International Festival of Plays and Unpleasant came to a close on Tuesday, 2 April. For a few weeks we could watch different plays from theatres in Poland and Europe. It was a wonderful time! This edition of Festival closed with two shows of “Uhlans” directed by Piotr Cieplak (the second show was organized at the audience request). The master performances produced by National Theatre in Warsaw were given long ovation.

After the second presentation Prof. Grzegorz Matuszak (he attended all 25 editions of the Festival) on behalf of all the spectators congratulated and thanked Ms Ewa Pilawska – founder and artistic director of the Festival. He gave her two symbolic bouquets of flowers – 25 white roses for the past editions and another 25 white roses for the next editions. Ewa Pilawska thanked the audience for creating the special Festival community, she also thanked “everybody who has supported the Festival”. She also thanked all theatres that took part in the 25th edition – it is thanks to them that the Festival has been a great day in Polish theatre. Ewa Pilawska also thanked Grzegorz Matuszak and Włodzimierz Tomaszewski for giving a donation to the Festival in 2009, deputy mayor Krzysztof Piątkowski for the city’s donation for the 25th edition and Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for its financial support in the past.

After the spectacle Łukasz Maciejewski moderated the meeting the “Uhlans” creators. Piotr Cieplak pointed out that though the text by Jarosław Rymkiewicz had been written in 1974 it sounded as if it were written today. He stressed that it described relations among Poles in a bitter yet funny way. Anna Seniuk and Jerzy Radziwiłowicz who had taken part in other plays by Rymkiewicz noticed a great language construction of his plays. The creators also told about rehearsals with Piotr Cieplak when they worked hard on the text, with its rhythmic, difficult and octosyllabic language.

Below you can see photos taken during two presentations of “Uhlans”. Thank you for being with us during this year’s Festival!
