This year Poster Masters Gallery of International Festival of Plays Pleasant And Unpleasant has enriched again. It consists now, among others, of works by Waldemar Świerzy, Rafał Olbiński, Andrzej Pągowski, Eugeniusz Get-Stankiewicz, Michał Batory and Stanisław Fijałkowski. This year the poster for the 31st Festival was designed by Józef Robakowski.
Józef Robakowski is one of the most important modern Polish artists and theoreticians. He is an artist, art historian, author of films, photo and video series, drawings, installations, objects, conceptual projects and initiator of many important events and multimedia artistic actions, a professor of Łódź Film School.
During his studies he was the founder of several artistic groups – Oko, STKF Pętla, Zero-61. In the 70-ties he co-organized Forma Filmowa workshop – its members (to mention here Wojciech Bruszewski, Paweł Kwiek, Antoni Mikołajczyk, Zbigniew Rybczyński, Ryszard Waśko) were interested in analyzing the language of photography and film with elimination of any story and plot. In 1974 he produced his first video films in which he rejected narrative in favour of media analysis in order to achieve higher possible objectivity of his works; the results were assembly films in which the artist limited his part to be only the initiator and coordinator and the film was produced by an invited person.
Józef Robakowski’s works have been presented in various institutions not only in Poland but all over the world – at Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, museums and galleries in Canada, Germany, Holland, Austria, Hungary, Great Britain and the United States.
