„Rage” to premiere on 7 June in Powszechny Theatre in Łódź for the first time in Poland

In June Powszechny Theatre in Łódź invites its viewers to see „Rage” by a Canadian playwright Michele Riml. The play is to premiere on 7 June at 10 a.m. at our Small Stage in „Child In a Situation” project; it will be directed, a usual, by Ewa Pilawska on a voluntary basis. Besides, on 6 June at 11.30 a.m. the play will be presented in theReading theatre for people with poor eyesight and blind project. It will be the jubilee, 70th spectacle in the project.

„Rage” is about violence. It is present in our everyday life, in apparently harmless gestures, and it gradually becomes more and more dangerous because we assent to it. But violence does not mean only physical aggression. It is violence when we pretend we do not see harm done to somebody. Violence is slander, gossip and denigration. The language we use may also be violence. Verbal attack may be as cruel as a physical blow. As a matter of fact violence starts from the moment how we think of other people – Ewa Pilawska says.

Violence has become everyday behaviour at home, a basis of interpersonal relations, a paradigm of how society functions… And as we do not stop it, violence becomes more and more destructive and hard to be held back; it takes extreme forms and we watch them in modern world. In my opinion „Rage” asks why we do not stop the mechanism of violence. Why do we assent to it and allow it to grow stronger and stronger? Who is interested in the conflict? Are we able to do anything about it? Are we able to eliminate the roots of violence? – Ewa Pilawska asks.

First Polish presentations of „Rage” will take place on 6 June at 11.30 a.m. (Reading theatre for people with poor eyesight and blind project) and then on 7, 8 and 9 June at 10 p.m. (and then in July). All the shows will be accompanied by workhops (as it always is in the „Child In a Situation” project) moderated by Andrzej Jakubas together with experts in different fields. This time the workshops will be devoted to the problem of mechanism of violence in interpersonal relations.

„Rage” is the 12th spectacle of the „Child In a Situation” project – an original idea of Ewa Pilawska that has been produced for several years now. The spectacles and workshops are addressed mainly to young people. They present difficult topics such as homelessness, depression of parents, haterade, sexual initiation and transsexuality. Very often it appears that it is only in the theatre where young people get the chance of being heard and a chance of talking on the subject. The project’s principle is to talk and discuss and not to give ready-made solutions for life. During workshops all participants are partners, listen to their opinions and get inspired by themselves. The project is carried on both in the theatre and on-line and that is why there are participants from all over Poland. The project’s presentations include, among others,  „Courage” by Jaś Kapela and Hanna M. Zagulska, „#Tagged” by Dave Deveau, „Ony” by Marta Guśniowska, „Seventeen” by Matthew Whittet and „Johnny, King of Moving” by David S. Craig. Very often the shows are the first Polish presentations of British, Canadian and Australian playwrights.

Sponsors of the spectacle are: AMCOR (strategic sponsor of the „Child In a Situation” project), Hexeline and Opus Film.
