The 8th edition of „Comedywriting” to start!

Polish Comedy Centre of Powszechny Theatre in Łódź announces the start of the 8th edition of „Comedywriting” – the only original project devoted entirely to modern theatre comedy in Poland.  

The aim of the competition is to develop Polish comedy drama and to support authors interested in creating a contemporary language of comedy.

Since the first edition of the competition we have had more than 800 texts, written by debutants as well as established creators. Past winners include, among others, Juliusz Machulski, Radosław Paczocha, Paweł Mossakowski, Jarosław Jakubowski, Wojciech Bruszewski and Marcin Bałczewski. Most of the awarded plays had their world premieres at Teatr Powszechny in Łódź and were subsequently produced on other stages across Poland and abroad, as well as in the TVP Theatre.

The submission period for competition entries runs from 1 May to 30 October, 2026.  The total prize pool amounts to 100,000 zloties and will be awarded by the jury. The announcement of results is planned for early 2027.
