„The Seventh Angel” according to Zbigniew Herbert and Maciej Wojtyszko

We have started the rehearsals of „The Seventh Angel”, directed by Maciej Wojtyszko. The play will be premiered on 21 April on our Small Stage.

The play is based on Zbigniew Herbert’s poems. It asks questions on man’s condition in the world, on sense of humanity, its ups and downs and limitations. What is faith? Does God exist? What does that mean to us? The most popular poems such as „The Homily”, „The Seventh Angel” and „The Breviary” will be presented in the play as well as less popular ones. The performance will be a combination of words and music, of dialogues and monologues – all of them will create a climate of degenerate reality lacking any values which might be of any use.

2018 has been proclaimed the Zbigniew Herbert Year. In July there will be 20 years since the poet’s death. „In the times of the values crisis, of deep doubts, Zbigniew Herbert always stood on the principles’ side: in art it was a canon of beauty, hierarchy and craft; in life – ethic codes that clearly distinguish good and evil. He impersonated fidelity – to himself and to words. In his poetry he expressed the love of freedom, the faith in a dignity of an individual and its moral strength” – reads the Parliament resolution on the celebration of the anniversary.
