"The Seventh Angel" first preview

The rehearsals of „The Seventh Angel”, directed by Maciej Wojtyszko, are coming to the end.  The play will be premiered on 21 April on our Small Stage. 2018 has been proclaimed the Zbigniew Herbert Year – in July there will be 20 years since the poet’s death.

The play is based on Zbigniew Herbert’s poems. It asks questions on man’s condition in the world, on sense of humanity, its ups and downs and limitations, our small and great actions. What is faith? How does it manifest itself? Does God exist? What does that mean to us? The most popular poems such as „The Homily”, „The Seventh Angel” and „The Breviaries” series will be presented in the play as well as less popular ones. The performance will be a combination of words and music, of dialogues and monologues – all of them will create a climate of degenerate reality lacking any values which might be of any use.

The spectacle is directed by Maciej Wojtyszko – one of the most popular Polish film and theatre directors, a writer and a playwright. He directed numerous productions starting with the theatre performances by Thomas Bernhard, Sławomir Mrożek and Witold Gombrowicz to performances for children to television series. He directed „Song Factory” in Powszechny Theatre in Łódź at the 21st edition of the International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant. Wojtyszko is the author of several plays. His best known dramas include „Bambuko”, „Semiramis”, „Resumption”, „Iron Construction”, „Bulgakov” and „Land of Liars”. Wojtyszko also directed many plays for the young audience. Maciej Wojtyszko was awarded with many important distinctions, to mention the Knight’s Cross and the Officer’s Cross of the Order of the Rebirth of Poland (Polonia Restituta). He was also honoured for his TV productions, among others „Mikhail Bulgakov’s Last Days”.
