I apprecciate the fact that in the group of creators who have been cooperating with us there is a place for Juliusz Machulski – a master of comedy. In his latest comedy „Meczycho” Machulski explores family theme, as he does in all his theatre comedies. The pretext for confronting different visions and worldviews is the meeting of parents and grandparents of 18-year-old Nadia who – at the family event – introduces her girlfriend Aleks. In the background we have a football match. And „football is the most important thing out of all unimportant things” – as Machulski notices, referring to words attributed to Albert Camus.
Intergenerational meeting has many threads, some of them connected with xenophobia and homophobia, negative emotions determined by prejudices, stereotypes and historical traumas. Are three generations and three worlds able to understand each other? Are we able to live in symbiosis? Machulski, with his inteligence and witty sense of humous proves we are. His play is a lesson of respect for diversity.
