ONY
“Ony” is a play for young people who start to say farewell to their childhood – they start to understand the world and live in it more consciously to become grown-ups. But at the same time it is a play for older people who remember the moment they started to become grown-ups. Because “Ony” is a universal play.
An interesting, multilevel text by Marta Gnuśniowska is a fairy tale a rebours. It is a story about modern world, about our struggles and fears and monsters that live inside us. After his mother's death main character sets for a journey in order to find his father he had never known. The way he travels in an oneiric and fairy-tale scenery becomes a metaphor for maturation. During his journey Ony meets many fairy-tale characters, wins the Princess's heart, experiences many amazing adventures. In the end he achieves peace. Or, perhaps, he becomes grown-up?
The play received a grant from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage
