Winners of the Audience Plebiscite of the 32nd International Festival of Plays Pleasant And Unpleasant

 Ladies and Gentlemen,

Theatre has the greatest power when conscious creators and audiences who want to engage in a conversation come together. Such a meeting enables a diverse and multi-level dialogue. During the 32nd International Festival of Plays Pleasant And Unpleasant which has jest come to en end, the level of the dialogue was very intense.  

I have often said that this year’s edition of the Festival was the most difficult in its history because it took place in extreme conditions. I was asked whether the Festival would be suspended for renovation of Powszechny Theatre in Łódź. I am glad it did not happen. We had the pleasure of meeting at many theatre events, exchanging opinions, talking about the condition and freedom of the artist and the individual. Thank you for those conversations, they were very inspiring.       

Knowing that you consider this one of the best editions and hearing your congratulations really gives us wings and brings new meaning to our efforts. This would not have been possible were it not for the great alliance with the theatre community and the audience.

Thank you very much to absolutely everyone who contributed to the creation of this edition, and to the wonderful audience for your support and the authentic need to be together. Once again, we have created an island of dreamers and a sense of community under the banner of art.

Master Presentations: „The Polish Thermopylae” by Tadeusz Miciński, directed by Jan Klata (produced by Narodowy Theatre in Warsaw) and „Europa”, based on „Europa’s Pledge” („Le Serment d’Europe”) by Wajdi Mouawad, directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski (co-produced by Nowy Theatre and Théâtre de Liège) did not take part in the Audience Plebiscite. Also „Meczycho” by Juliusz Machulski, directed by Tomasz Karolak (produced by Powszechny Theatre in Łódź) does not take part in the Audience Plebiscite – the spectacle is presented out of competition.

• The 32nd International Festival of Plays Pleasant And Unpleasant is held under honorary patronage of Ms Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, and Ms Hanna Zdanowska, Mayor of the City of Łódź.    

• The 32nd eddition of the Festival is co-financed by the City of Łódź and the Minister of Culture And National Heritage (programme „Theatre 2026”).

• EXPO-Łódź is the strategic partner of the 32nd Festival.
