2018 in Powszechny Theatre - overview
It was a very intensive year. We produced 11 previews, we presented 379 spectacles, we realized 229 workshops. Our Theatre was visited by more than 130,000 spectators. Thank you!
1. Previews:

- “Hanna Arendt: The Escape” by Grzegorz Laszuk (co-produced with Komuna Warszawa)

- “The Seventh Angel” by Zbigniew Herbert, directed by Maciej Wojtyszko
- “Seventeen” by Matthew Whitter, directed by Ewa Pilawska and Andrzej Jakubas
- “The Independent” directed by Arkadiusz Wójcik and Małgorzata Goździk
- The spectacle produced for Bra Day 2018, directed by Jakub Przebindowski
- “Dance of the Albatross” by Gerald Sibleyras, directed by Marcin Sławiński.
2. Previews of the Reading theatre for people with poor eyesight and blind, directed by Ewa Pilawska on a voluntary basis:

- “The Naked Truth” by Rich Orloff.
3. The 24th edition of International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant “It is dangerous to quit the stage”:
- The results of the Audience Plebiscite:
- The Best Actress – Krystyna Janda for her role in „Notes from Exile”, based on a book by Sabina Baral, directed by Magda Umer (produced by Polonia Theatre in Warsaw)
- The Best Actor – Borys Szyc for the role of Sharik/Sharikov in „Heart of a Dog” by Mikhail Bulgakov, directed by Maciej Englert (produced by Współczesny Theatre in Warsaw)
- The Best Performance – „The Wedding” by Stanisław Wyspiański, directed by Jan Klata (produced by The Helena Modrzejewska National Stary Theatre in Cracow)
- The attendance – more than 110 percent.
4. Selected awards and distinctions:
- Ewa Pilawska was chosen “The Lodz Man of 2017”
- Special Golden Mask for the idea of „Theatre close to people” – original idea of director Ewa Pilawska
- “Hanna Arendt: The Escape” was mentioned by “Polityka” weekly as one of 10 most important Polish theatre spectacles in 2018
- Kuba Kotyński was put by Jacek Sieradzki in his “Subjective list of theatre actors” for his roles in “lovebook” and for “good comedy playing”
- “F5” Magazine honoured Ewa Pilawska as one of 10 people who make Lodz a better place to live in.

6. The general subsidy from the Lodz City Hall for Powszechny Theatre in Lodz in 2018:
- 4,000,000 zloties
- 1,000,000 zloties for International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant
7. Total income from the sale of the tickets:
- 3,399,147 zloties
8. Subsidies from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as well as from our sponsors for the Theatre’s substantive projects:
- 390,000 zloties.
