First previews of „Courage” on 1 and 2 December

Powszechny Theatre in Łódź presents first previews of “Courage”. The spectacle, based on a book by Jaś Kapela i Hanna M. Zagulska, was directed on a voluntary basis by Ewa Pilawska.  It will be premiered on 2 December at 10 a.m. in the „Child In A Situation” project. The day before, on 1 December at noon it will be presented on the internet live from our Small Stage in the “Reading theatre for people with poor eyesight and blind” project.

“Courage” is a story of Marysia – a teenager who everyday has to face her fears. She feels isolated in the world where value is measured by popularity – the number of likes and followers.  In the world where it is hard to cope with your individualism… Marysia moves to a new school. Will she find herself in a new place and get accepted by a new group?

- In my opinion there are many more problems in “Courage”. The story of Marysia, a teenager who – together with her mother – flees her home and goes to grandmother in order to avoid her violent father, touches not only problems of adolescence but also universal problems we face irrespective of our age. Pressure of our circle and necessity of facing trends that more and more often are set by influencers. Poverty and its stigma. Looking for our identity and transsexuality – how to accept yourself in order to be happy? Ecology – how do we destroy the world we live in and the world of our children and grandchildren? He are some of the problems we touch in our latest preview – emphasizes Ewa Pilawska, the Powszechny Theatre director.

- „Courage” has a very important message that gives strength and optimism. It allows us to look at many things and problems  with a deeper reflection. For the whole life we have to face our own fears. As children we are afraid of darkness, then it changes and we are anxious for our loved ones – for our children’s health, education and upbringing, we are afraid of loss of job, of disappointing others. Finally we are afraid of loneliness and death. But „Courage” reminds us that this is life and all those experiences and fights enrich us, develop, make us more sensitive and grownup. Make us better and cleverer – Ewa Pilawska sums it up.

„Courage” will premiere live on December 2, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Small Stage of Powszechny Theatre in Łódź. It will be the 11th spectacle in the “Child In A Situation” project – the original educational project accompanied by workshops set up by Andrzej Jakubas who moderates all meetings together with specialists on education, philosophy, psychology and others. As a rule, the workshops reject a canon of giving ready-made answers. Their base is to ask questions and the aim – to inspire young people to look for the trails by themselves and to dare find unconventional solutions.

The day before, on 1 December at 12 noon, the spectacle will be streamed on the internet from Small Stage of Powszechny Theatre in the “Reading theatre for people with poor eyesight and blind” project. The tickets cost symbolic 20 groszy (cents) and people from all over the country as well as schools for the blind from neighbouring provinces have declared their participations.
