On 2 December a play by Flavia Coste to premiere at Powszechny Theatre in Łódź

On 2 December Powszechny Theatre in Łódź – Polish Comedy Centre will present the first Polish staging of „Tutoring In Love” („Alors on s’aime!”) by a French playwright Flavia Coste, directed by Sławomir Narloch.

„Tutoring In Love” is another spectacle by Powszechny Theatre in Łódź staged in co-operation with The Academy of Dramatic Arts in Warsaw. – We have been co-operating with the Directing Department of the academy; its students and graduates direct modern comedies on our Small Stage. In my opinion it is very important for young creators who are interested in comedies to have some space in order to search for a new, original aesthetics of the genre – Ewa Pilawska, director of Powszechny Theatre in Łódź, says.

- For young directors it is a window of opportunity to produce a spectacle on a professional stage and to confront their conceptions with the audience. For us it is an artistic venture which is included in the mission of Polish Comedy Centre, connected with the future and quality of comedy in the theatre. It was due to the co-operation that last season Magdalena Małecka-Wippich directed „Replay” („La roue tourne”) and this season we invite you to see „Tutoring In Love” („Alors on s’aime!”) by Flavia Coste, directed by Sławomir Narloch. – I enjoy our mutual challenges and also the fact that young directors as well as Flavia Coste (it is her second play to premiere at our theatre) are so much fascinated by Łódź and by Powszechny Theatre – Ewa Pilawska adds.

- The play is witty and very well written, it is also very modern because it touches the problem of therapies which we use more and more often nowadays. We tell the story of a mature (27 years together) couple in a crisis. They seem to live a happy life but their love apparently has been vanishing. Luckily their neighbour who is editor of the relationships column „Broken hearts” in a glossy magazine for ladies has just invented an original therapy for couples – Sławomir Narloch says.

Narloch adds that in his opinion a comedy is a real challege for its director. – It is easy to frighten or touch the audience while it is much more difficult to tell simple stories using the language of comedy. Comedies are very necessary because they show that the world has not come to its end and that we need to be together. „Tutoring In Love” tells about a serious problem but I do hope the viewers will find an optimistic message in it; after all the world is not that bad – Narloch says.

„Tutoring In Love” is the second Flavia Coste’s play staged this year by Powszechny Theatre in Łódź. After the first one - „Replay” („La roue tourne”) produced in May – the playwright came specially to Łódź; she was delighted by the staging, by the Theatre and by the city itself.

„Tutoring In Love” will premiere on 2 December, later it will be presented on 3, 5, 6 and 7 December as well as on 19, 20 and 21 January and next shows will follow.
