Rehearsals for BraDay 2018

In line with the idea of „Theatre close to people”, Powszechny Theatre started to cooperate with the Łódź BraDay (Breast Reconstruction Awarness Day) organizers. The rehearsals of the joint artistic project have just started. The results will be seen on 19 October in the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Art in Łódź during Łódź Young Fashion international competition.

BraDay is a worldwide idea to educate and promote the breast reconstruction operation after mastectomy. The action started in 2011 in Canada. Its aim was to spread the knowledge of breast reconstruction methods as an integral part of the treatment of women with breast cancer. BraDay has been observed in Poland since 2015. In Łódź it is organized by the Mikołaj Kopernik Hospital, the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Art and Foundation for the Breast Reconstruction Development. The Gala main event of BraDay has become part of Łódź Young Fashion.

This year the organizers invited director Ewa Pilawska and Powszechny Theatre to cooperate in producing the event. In August on our Small Stage there was a photo session with women who had breast cancer. The photographs will be presented during this year’s BraDay. A theatrical impression produced by the women from the Foundation and the Powszechny Theatre actors will be „the icing on the cake” of the gala evening.

Last week in Powszechny Theatre  the producers of the show and the women who had been fighting against breasts cancer met for the first time. The idea of the theatrical impression came from Ewa Pilawska. She invited Jakub Przebindowski to direct it and Wojciech Stefaniak to prepare the stage design. As she explains, she has come up with the idea of laugh therapy because laughter has an salutary effect on people and it is only natural for the director of comedy theatre and the author of the Polish Comedy Centre project to  present such an idea. The concept is that the women will not play their roles but they will take part in a mutual impression of good energy and laughter during meetings and improvisations with professional actors. Jakub Przebindowski says he wants the impression to become an emanation of the „Viva la vida”! idea – praise of life and expression of joy that allow us to forget everyday life. That is why the project opening question is: „what amuses us?”.

Concept: Ewa Pilawska
Director: Jakub Przebindowski
Cast: Małgorzata Goździk, Marta Jarczewska, Karolina Krawczyńska, Filic Jacak, Michał Lacheta, Arkadiusz Wójcik and women who have been fighting against breast cancer
