Voice. Kurtz was nothing more than voice (“Heart of Darkness”, translated by Magdalena Heydel)

“A dark and scandalous masterpiece” – this is how “Heart of Darkness”, written by Joseph Conrad in 1899, has been described. A cruise from Europe into the depths of the African river Congo is at the same time a journey into European violence. The story of Kurtz’s outpost and his crimes committed in the name of civilization's development is a story of a patriarchal order built on the exploitation of people, the environment and resources.

We take our audience into a theatrical and sound-based journey into the heart of darkness so that we can tell a story of a fiasco of this enlightenment project from today’s perspective.

The show is planned as an immersive sound story. The spectators should be wearing special headphones for optimal reception for the greater part of the spectacle. Headphone sets are available by each chair of the house. They are disinfected after each show.

WARNING: a stage smoke is used in the show.
