The story starts with the twenty-year-old Rosemary, sister of the future president John F. Kennedy, looking out happily from an old photo and later – with her violent mood changes and sudden outbursts of anger. It all leads her father to have Rosemary lobotomized. Stammering and deprived of any contact with the outside world, she will be forced to spend the rest of her life in an institution. The respectable catholic Kennedy clan will make sure that Rosemary’s fate remains a secret.

Later her elder brother Joseph dies in a plane crash. John and Robert are hit by assassins’ bullets. Each new generation of this American royal family is touched by a tragedy: illnesses, unfortunate accidents and overdoses.

Is the Kennedy family cursed? Jolanta Janiczak and Wiktor Rubin, co-laureates of the Paszport Polityki award, follow the trauma passed through generations of this family life and the belief in their bad luck. One incident appears to provoke another one. What are the consequences of believing in your bad luck? Is it possible to create mentally a self-fulfilling prophecy?
