The whole complexity of the „Uncle Vanya” characters, their irresolutions and nostalgia, paradoxically match dilemmas and condition of a modern man, suddenly facing terminal choice, forced to ask fundamental questions. Questions on sense of life put in the light of past decisions, on validity of past choices leading us to difficult paths of fate, on right to happiness, love and free life. Some time ago they might look romantic, distant, typical for literary characters. But now, in 2021, who has no similar reflections? Like Chekhov’s characters we see past values devaluating, systems breaking down, our world going to pieces. But we are putting it off until later, like fulfilment, hopes, life.

„Chekhov presented man whose life came into the verge of enormous changes and that is why he became lost and tried to define once again his own happiness and his goals. The man asking questions on his own identity, rejecting previous choices which he called self-sacrifice for others. The man who is ashamed of his life – this is one of the most important emotions of the text".
