The first presentation of "The Independent"
On Monday, 15 October, we presented for the first time our show „The Independent”. The spectacle on our Small Stage was created by the Powszechny Theatre actors and a group of seniors „We Are Present” that cooperate with our theatre.
The show’s title refers to the 100th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland. It tries to tell the story how we understand freedom and what the most important manifestation of freedom is. This is the first part of theatre diptych. In March next year we will invite you to the second part. Held in an open space it will be a crash between views of different generations – seniors and youngsters. – The spectacle will be presented in Legionów Street and it is planned in such a way that as many as possible street’s inhabitants and passers-by could take part in it. It is a story about the city as seen by its inhabitants and they are the real heroes of the play – says Ewa Pilawska, head of Powszechny Theatre.
The group „We Are Present” have been cooperating with our theatre for more than two seasons, they fulfill their theatrical passion under the guidance of Małgorzata Goździk and Arkadiusz Wójcik. It is one of the theatrical projects that have been realized by Powszechny Theatre for the city inhabitants within the „Theatre close to people” idea. The seniors meet regularly during workshops the results of which are presented on the professional stage. „The Independent” is another show produced together by the group „We Are Present” and Powszechny Theatre. The first production „Last Witnesses” was presented on 24 July 2017 within the „Touch the theatre” project. The show was prepared and directed by Arkadiusz Wójcik who invited seniors, professional actors and charges of MONAR Association (non-governmental organization focused on helping drug addicts, the homeless, those who are HIV positive or who have AIDS) to take part in the show.
