„A sad comedy” – it is a subtitle of the latest play by Juliusz Machulski in which he tells a story of interpersonal relations. Confronting these two apparently contrary words the author reminds us that nothing is just back-or-white  because we are humans. Our decisions and motivations are not only good or bad, we do not behave in a moral or immoral way – there is a great scale of doubts and human disability between heroism and cowardice.  Comedy – the mirror of reality – may be sad. It reminds us that our life may become comic in a most unexpected moment – for instance when we face an important problem or challenge. On the other hand sometimes the greatest human drama may be borne thanks to a sense of humour, irony and distance.

„Ink. Yesterday. Giraffe”  directed by Paweł Szkotak shows a multigeneration family which is confronted with a serious illness of one of its seniors. Can we deal with it? Are we ready to make sacrifices? What is real love for our closest people? Laughter according to Machulski is bitter-sweet, a look for the family gives us doubts and hope at the same time. It reminds us that all the time we have to learn our mutual sensitivity and listen to each other. Comfortable conditions and professional care do not give us real happiness and a sense of safety. Sometimes a simple gesture of a son towards his mother or a granddaughter towards her grandmother are much more important…
