„Forefathers’ Eve” directed by Kleczewska, „Imagine” by Krystian Lupa, spectacles directed by Augustynowicz, Bogajewska, Vyrypaev – on 19 March the 28th International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant starts! Here is the programme! Again in spring Łódź will become the most important point on the Polish theatre map. On 19 March the 28th Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant starts. As usual, the Łódź festival opens the series of the most important theatre events of the year in Poland.

- This year’s main theme of the festival is „Artist. Visionary”. The spectacles are thematically grouped around the man’ s condition, deconstruction of the world’s values and freedom and its boundaries – says Ewa Pilawska, the Powszechny Theatre in Łódź director and the artistic director of the Festival.

- On 19 March  we inaugurate the Festival with „Forefathers’ Eve” directed by Maja Kleczewska and we invite our viewers to see the spectacle in The Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Cracow. The spectacle has its artistic burden and value when presented there and it is impossible to move it elsewhere from Cracow. Architecture, neo-baroque design, the curtain painted by Siemiradzki and the history of the place – „Forefathers’s Eve” presented there has its unique atmosphere – Ewa Pilawska underlines.

- In March and April you will see shows directed by Ivan Vyrypaev, Anna Augustynowicz, Bartosz Szydłowski, Ivo Vedral and Małgorzata Bogajewska. Powszechny Theatre ikn Łódź will present two spectacles especially prepared for the Festival – „Maria” by Radosław Paczocha directed by Adam Orzechowski and „Imagine” written and directed by Krystian Lupa – this will be a co-production of Powszechny Theatre in Łódź and Powszechny Theatre in Warsaw.

- The Festival’s viewers will be invited to see video projections of two shows which Krystian Lupa directed abroad. It will be „Austerlitz” from Vilnius and „A Madman’s Diary” produced in China. They will be accompanied by an international conference devoted to Krystian Lupa and two exhibitions – the first one a presentation of his works and the second one – his drawings. There will also be a concert „Climate Keys” – a special educational project prepared especially for the Festival – Ewa Pilawska says.

The 28th International Festival of Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant is co-financed by The City of Łódź Office.
